Registered Veterinary Technician (Equine) Job at Agwest Veterinary Group – Abbotsford, BC
Agwest Veterinary Group is home to a progressive bovine and equine veterinary practice. We provide veterinary services throughout the Fraser Valley and Vancouver Island. We are currently looking for an experienced full-time Equine Registered Veterinary Technician to join our highly reputed equine team in our Abbotsford location.
The role entails assisting veterinarians, working with other staff, direct handling and treatment of animals, client communication, facility and equipment maintenance, travel, and variable work hours.
The position will be responsible for both in-clinic and on-farm veterinarian support in addition to safe equine handling for exams treatments and procedures.
Specific duties may include performing various fecal/blood lab tests, preparing and administering various shots, assisting with various diagnostic procedures such as radiography, ultrasound, and endoscopy, patient care including treatments, bandage changes, and husbandry, familiarization with medications, doses, and stocking and maintaining vet trucks, properly cleaning and providing as-needed maintenance to equipment such as the autoclave, ventilator, endoscopes, surgical instruments, dental float, etc., maintaining cleanliness and upkeep of stock throughout all areas of the hospital.
Various administrative tasks might include keeping detailed and accurate medical records electronically, billing clients or development & writing of standard operating procedures and protocols.
Preference will be given to those with a willingness to learn, positive attitude, ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, and who seeks continued professional growth.
What you’ll bring
2+ years Registered Veterinary Technician (in good standing)
Equine experience is an asset.
Enthusiastic about equine health care.
Exposure to breeding, and all other reproductive tasks is an asset, but not necessary
Excellent communication skills, people skills and emotional intelligence.
Strong professionalism, judgement, problem solving attention to detail and conflict management skills
Knowledge of Impromed is beneficial
